A couple of years ago a big branch of our grand Maple tree fell and Rick found a piece of wood that he tucked away for a future project. Every once in a while he would look at it and say “Someday I’m going to make something out of that”.
Well today he did. He put it in the lathe and started turning until it said “I am a broken bottle”.
Finish is just oiled.

Looks great, I love the way wood talks to us. Sometimes it takes a while for us to here what it is saying but we get it sooner or later.

I like the idea behind this project. Sometimes the purpose of a piece of wood takes a while to let itself known. Very nice turning.

Neat piece…...I too have several chunks and assorted pieces of misc. wood laying around and sitting on shelves and hiding in the shadows….all of which I swear is patientally watching me come and go from the shop with dreams of being picked next to become that special ingrediant in my next project….
