I wanted to try some technique so I do it on this axe. I first remove old varnish, polish and sharp the head, burn just a little bit the wood to increase the contrast of the grain, apply stain and varnish. I decided to make a cover to protect myseft (it is a little bit too sharp for an axe!!! I sharpened it like a knife…) so I used leather from an old armchair and a piece of wood because my leather is not thick enough to resist the blade. I add a piece of leather on the handle for more confort. All the sewing are made by hand. It would be easier to just sand it and put varnish but why not have fun and make something look good.
