All of my spoons are hand carved from fresh cut green wood. They are done the old fashion way. I saw then split the branches or limbs with a froe and wooden mallet. Then I used a hatchet to begin roughing out the spoon blanks. After the hatchet, I use my shaving horse and draw knife. Then comes the knife for shaping and hook knife for hollowing out the bowl. I use a scraper to smooth out all carving marks. I finish the spoons with flax seed oil.
The first picture is of a 15” long spoon carved from apple tree branch. Following in my blacksmithing past, I carved a spiral handle. I wanted it to look like it had grown with a vine wrapped around it. Second picture is various spoons also from apple wood. The other pictures are various spoons and spreaders from pecan and oak.
