My brother-in-law had to cut down a huge tree in his yard a couple of years ago. I hauled it all to the house to use for firewood. It was looking at the grain in this wood as burned it that got me interested in working with wood. There were several really large pieces. This one was the only one I didn’t split up. Even though it has a large crack in it, I used forstner bits to place foreign coins from places I have visited, and then covered the top with epoxy. I learned a lot doing this table and would make several changes if I had the opportunity to do it again. Unfortunately, it is all split up. I have made several bandsaw boxes and carved bowls from the remaining wood from this tree, as well as getting a lot of free heating.
