This is a Retirement gift I made for an E-6 jet engine mechanic. It has a tail hook point from an F/A-18 Super Hornet and two viles ( one filled with Jet Fuel JP-5, and the other filled with hydraulic fluid). This was incase he started missing the smells related to the job he will be leaving behind. I used biscuits to join the two pieces of oak together to make the plaque wide enough. I also used the Craftsman multi-purpose cutting tool to inset the two coins from VFA-2 into the bottom of the plaque. Then mounting brackets for the tail hook point are made of oak as well and cut out using a scroll saw. I used the keyhole template from Rockler.com to make the picture frame hangar in the back. I cranked this out in about 4 hours as the 1st Class Association was well behind the power curve. AD1’s Retirement ceremony is Today!!
