A buddy was going on a fishing trip and asked that I make him a nice handle for this filet knife. He threw in a blade for me as a thanks, so I made two handles – one out of a really nice figured walnut and the other from birdseye maple. Unfortuantely, a lot of the birdseye was removed during shaping, but I love it anyway.

I don’t know the proper finish for handles, but I went with 1-2 coats of shellac, then repeated coats of beeswax/mineral oil. Seems to be holding up well so far.

Great looking handles—nicely done.

A job well done. I should redo mine.

Very nicely done indeed. I like oil finishes on knife handles, using either tru-oil or even just Danish oil, but yours look really nice the way they are.
