Today I turned this tilted plywood goblet. While I was doing that I thought about the weakness of the plywood in the riser of the goblet, it may not sustain the pressure of cutting. Therefor, I decided to insert a 130 mm long and 10 mm in diameter dowel in the center of the blank from top to bottom after drilling it while it was on the lathe, as showing in photos 3 & 4. And I kept turning without worrying of sudden shattering It was successful idea that wasn’t in my mind when I started turning.

Very nice Sam, but I don’t think you needed the dowel. At that diameter, you were pretty strong yet!! i love the pattern that come out of plywood. I tried some 1” Baltic birch laid up and it was so hard to cut that glue, I threw it away. I took the knives out of my jointer with the stuff!!

cheers, Jim
