End Tables

My wife had a friend that was using some tv trays as end tables after a divorce. I offered to make the tables for her…partly to be nice and partly to improve my skills on a few things…since I’ve never built a table, worked with 30 degree angles, etc.

The plans for the morrocan table came from rogueengineer.com and hertoolbelt.com. The plans for the rectangular table came from woodworking for mere mortals. I saw his video for the table and changed a few things, i.e., adding trim and a bottom shelf instead of a second drawer. I also got to make a tapering jig which was basic but fun to use. She chose the paint themes….If my cuts would have been better maybe I could have talked her into a dark stain :)

I enjoyed making both tables, learned a lot and my wife’s friend is happy to put away her tv trays. Now it’s time to get started on my wife’s kitched table…

I love that trick of using trim around the outside of the lower table/legs to give the effect of the legs going straight through the shelf. Really neat.

Mind if I ask what paint you used, and is it poly or wax over the top?

Thanks! The lower trim was my wife’s idea. Both projects called for edge banding but I didn’t want to try that. I like the look of trim. I used latex paint with a couple of coats of polycrylic – lightly sanded with 220 grit paper between coats.

Have your say...
