I was at a local sawyer who had some free wood available and i saw a good sized slab of cypress… Good sized but with a number of cracks and issues, but I saw this live edge and knew the wood had a great deal of character. I also knew that my beloved wife wanted me to replace the bench on our hall coat rack. This was simply a matter of prepping the stock and handplaning with my #7 and #4 for a clean glue up and the beauty of the wood with some BLO and lacquer just did the rest. I have to say that sawing and planing Cypress is amazing… even roses don’t smell that sweet!

Great looking live edge bench top. The finish looks good also.
