My 24 year old son moved into his first apartment this month. Part of the deal to get him out of the house was for “Dad’s workshop” to provide much of his furniture.
These first two pieces are for his bedroom. A small bachelor’s chest dresser and a matching nightstand. They’re built out of cherry and cherry veneered baltic birch. I vacuum press veneered all the cherry panels for sides and tops and they’re framed in solid cherry with a figured claro walnut accent trim. The drawers are all solid cherry with some nice figured boards I found.
Finish is General finishes Seal a Cell followed by 3 coats of their Arm R Seal oil/urethane semi gloss. Rubbed it out with steel wool and wax.
The matching bed/headboard combination is in the “finish room” (aka the basement) now. I’ll have pictures of it up in a week or two when done. The entertainment center is a 3 piece construction where the main center piece is done and in his apartment. I’ll wait until the side pieces are done and installed to take photos of them.

Nicely done piece. Sly way to evict a son. I could use some tactics to evict some in-laws from my old house. . . .

I like the 45 degree cut for the trim. Simple, but looks very balanced. Well done.

Well done, you really showcased the beauty in the wood with your fine craftsmanship. You inspire me to get working on a night stand to match the bed I just made for her.
