Barn wood frame

Project by builtinabarn posted 270 days ago 500 views 0 times favorited 6 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This picture frame I built recently was made from some old wood I grabbed off a half fallen barn when I was in Tennessee, hunting, The barn was on the property I was hunting. The wood was Oak and the property owner mentioned that that barn dated back to the late 1800’s. It was incredibly hard and in excellent condition for it’s age. Boy they just don’t grow trees like that any more. Even though this is a very basic project, I just thought the story of the wood and its age was interesting. Thanks for viewing.

I love it and am partial to it. I bought a barn once aka 1913. saved my bacon too. Took almost all the hand hewn beams and posts, had the hewn part sawn off and stacked seqencially so that I could wrap them around new homes steel beams…............looked awesome. Had the cores made into wide plank flooring setting aside the very nice pieces for furniture and frames just like the one you posted.

Nice frame, fits the picture well. Your story remeinds me of a subsequent owner of my parent’s farm. They tore down an old barn to use the sidng as paneling inside the house.

Reclaimed wood is always great for projects. I found some pieces of wormy chestnut and made me a frame for a picture my wife had bought me. I’ll try and post it sometime. Yours looks great and it is very fitting for the picture.
