Oh my, I have not been here for ions it seems! Well, that means I have a real workshop and I used a construction heater to keep me warm all winter. We’re back in good ole’ BC now, Penticton actually and while the summers are incredibly hot, the cold winter was a surprise.

But as you can see, I have kept myself busy. It has been my dream for about 30 years to create my rendition of the Coat of many Colors from the song by Dolly Parton. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Dollywood, I sent the coat to her as a gift and her people surprised her with it.

The surprise back to me was that they secretly videotaped her reaction to it. Unfortunately I was asked not to share the video on public forums or social media(but I can share it privately.) Her reaction was soooo incredible, it made my wife cry. There was a very personal letter with it mentioning the carving’s future potential, she is torn between keeping it to herself or displaying it on a public level, we’ll see, but at any rate, I’m very pleased with the outcome and wanted to share it with you.

An now, as you can see, I’m back to gourds.

I wish this forum allowed individual replies. Thank you all for remembering me, as I’ve mentioned I’m a little hesitant to post gourds because this is a great wood forum and I don’t want to be an exception.

Jordan,

It’s good to see you back here. The coat of color is beautifully carved and painted . . . a good career move!

I really like the coat of armor. Is that just one gourd? It’s incredible.

Glad to see you’re doing well and continuing in your distinctive style(s). The Coat of Many Colors is outstanding as always, and a great gift to an all time favorite in County music—I well remember when the song was a hit—you certainly captured the song!

That is two gourds strapped together with a belt of basswood and gold leafed all around – my first time with gilding and it was horrendous until I got the hang of it, LOL
