This bowl is large diameter (over 12”) with Mahogany and Cedar segments in the rim. The second ring down is Cherry. The third ring down is Red Oak and the fourth ring down is Walnut. The base is 11 pieces, 8 triangles of Walnut separated by three 3/16” Maple strips, The bowl has a lacquer finish, about 10 coats then buffed and polished with paste wax and a final buffing with a lamb’s wool pad. The base is made of a real rich dark brown walnut probably a different species than the fourth ring down. Maybe English Walnut. The fourth ring down had a tiny knot in one walnut segment, guess that gives it character! The bowl was not made for anyone in particular, just made for the R&R value they give me after stressful days at work.

I just love these things. I really have to go sit atop a mountain in the Himalayas to find the patience to try one. Really, really nice!
