This is the second round of airplanes I made for my kids. The first group (see my other projects) was for hanging from the ceiling in my newborn son’s room. My daughter and son both wanted airplanes when they saw me making the first batch so I made these.

The first one is an F-16 for my son (age 5). I added a couple more features this time around, including the walnut cockpit and padauk exhaust. These are intended to be played with so I made them a bit more robust. The body is split in two halves and both horizontal wings are a single piece each and mounted in a groove, then the bottom half of the body is glued underneath. The vertical fin is mounted in a groove too.

The second is a custom design I made for my daughter (age 3). It is made from purpleheart and yellowheart, and the design is a heart theme. The single wing is the shape of a heart and the vertical fin is a half heart. I made the body a bit more chubby and rounded to be more cute and match the theme.

I love the airplanes. If you can make these in bulk for cheap enough to could sell them as a mobile for over baby cribs and make $100 per set, if not more.

Very neat and tidy work
Nice kid friendly edges
Brilliant design and selection of timbers and simple functional construction

Definately an F -16 unmistakable!
