Not alot to say about it. It’s just a 12” x 18” piece of 8/4 Sugar Pine. I started a carving class at UNM-Taos about a month ago, and this is my first project, and first ever carving. It is a Nicolai Fechin inspired design, based on a carved door panel documented in the book “Fechin: The Builder”. I really enjoyed the process, and look forward to continuing the program and doing more carving. Next up: Relief.

Regards, JM

Nice job, now all you have to do is build a cabinet to put that fine looking door on.

Very good carving…especially for your 1st.
I think you will go far with carving…..it has become a passion of mine for the last 2 years.
Chip carving is on my next to do list.
Thanks for the post

very nice carving. I’ve done quite a bit of chip carving. It’s time consuming and tedious. In my opinion its harder to do then relief carving. Great job.

hi Jarrod,

I love the design of this and I think that something like this would make a great front door.
