Bird Feeder

This was made as a birthday gift for my mom. She requested a bird feeder, and I wanted to build one for her since she was kind enough to “permanently” loan me my granddad’s woodworking tools, including a table saw. This was the perfect project to learn how to use it. It is also my first “real” woodworking project where I tried to do more than just make some (rickety) shelves or a box by simply cutting a few boards to length with a Skil saw and nailing them together. On this project I tried to do some special things like bevel the roof edges, use cedar and stainless steel screws to protect against corrosion and rot, and mortise the hinges on the roof with a chisel (first time). All of this can be seen in the pictures above. Ironically, I’ve been wanting to build one of these for almost a decade, and I actually bought the plexiglass that long ago and have been holding on to it until the time was right. Nothing like some new woodworking tools to make the time right! Thanks for looking…

Super job! The birds will love it too, once it gets filled with their favorite seeds.

Congratulations on a job well done!
