this is a bed frame I built from old barn boards in my parents barn. They needed to take part of the hayloft out to fit a rig in, and out came 6/4-8/4 old red oak baords, covered in paint and dirt. Took some time and work, but eventually, I was able to plane things down to usable sizes and cut away some of the junk. there are some worm holes, and some places where nails were removed that left holes, and there’s an interesting grain pattern that is fairly dark brown on the right side of the foot board, but I think it all adds to the character of the piece.
It took a long time to complete as I only worked on it when I had free time, but, the project was a great excuse to buy some new tools too!
This is my first project of this size…the table next to the bed (on the right side) is another project of mine from a while back.
For the finish, I just gave the red oak a coat of danish oil…my wife liked the subtle color and shine of it, plus it’s really easy to apply for a newbie like me.
