Not really pleased with the fit of the stone inlay. Would love tips on how to do this better. Nothing here to give perspective, but the stone is about 1/2 ” in length. Wood is popular, rescued from firewood pile. I want to eventually do some more inlay, but this one was a learning process…...not sure I learned.

It is a nice piece. Inletting works best if it is tapered towards the back so you always have wood snuggly fitting around the face. Using inletting black to relieve the high spots it marks, sharp tools and patience are about all it takes. Not that I’m very good at it, but I have done a few rifle stocks. Inletting the locks, patch boxes and trigger guards on Kentucky style rifles and pistols are the worst.

This is a great looking bowl and the inlay looks good. As they always say “practice makes perfect.” I am going to try some inlace in some of my bowl turnings when I can get back to the shop.
