A little utilitarian item for the kitchen … this Maple scoop is 6” long.

Finished with 3 coats of Danish Oil.

Gerry, very nice scoop. I like the deep and high sided action. Is it made out of one piece of wood? I was also interested in your choice of Danish Oil. I have been drawn strongly to Danish Oil in most of my projects and find it a joy to apply and the finish is superb, (even I can apply it) There seems to be a difference in some brand names that produce Danish Oil, some better than others. For example one can I bought recently was too thin and didn’t dry quickly enough, very disappointing but we learn by trial and error.

Is Danish Oil a safe choice where food items are concerned as I was thinking of using it on Cheese Boards Etc?

Anyway, great project Gerry!!!! well done!!!!!

Regards,

Cliff.

Is it made out of one piece of wood?

Yes … turned a Maple billet round, put a tenon on one end, mounted it in the scroll chuck, and hollowed out the end. Then I brought the live center (with a cone) up and shaped the handle. Parted it off, and cut the top off on the the bandsaw.

I was also interested in your choice of Danish Oil.

I use the Watco brand Danish Oil … can’t say that it is better than any others, but I have always been happy with the results and it is readily available at the big box.

Is Danish Oil a safe choice where food items are concerned …

I have always subscribed to the theory that, when properly cured, it is food safe.
