The finger remover

This is what I was working on when I cut part of my pinkie and ring finger off. It’s an incense box. You store the incense and lighter inside while the top is where you actually burn the incense. The first pic is where you stick one end of the incense (see pic 4). I was using a dado blade to hog out the wood for the groove, without feather boards, when the wood shot out and my fingers went down into the blade. I’ve still got a lot of work to go but I am determined to get it completed. The cabriole legs are only 2.5” tall. They were a little challenging to do. I broke them a couple of times, so I saturated them with ca. Hoping that would strengthen them. I really do need to finish this piece because it’s for a wonderful lady. Anybody got an extra finger or two I could barrow so I can finish this. LOL

My grandfather, a cabinet maker for nearly 60 years, lost several finger parts… he once told me blood was the best finish… huh. Well, anyway, the piece looks great so far… glad its going to someone special, because it sure has meaning for you! Best regards for a speedy recovery.

You’d better make this one helluva nice piece when done, you certainly sacrificed enough for it.

We all put a little something of ourselves in our work…

Nice box! I hope you’re back in the shop soon.
