A simple box made from Mahogany and Curly Maple. The finish is gloss lacquer and to achieve the gloss; grain filler (Aqua coat) was used on the mahogany. The bottom of the box was lyptus veneer plywood which very closely matched the Mahogany.

dgreen, glad to see you posting after such a long hiatus.

Many of the new woodworkers I talk to want to know what projects they should practice on.
I recommend they practice on simple, square, boxes. Even though it looks easy, making a box ‘square’ takes a lot more skill than a lot of people have.
