This is a canopy that was completed in October 2004. It was built for brothers that slept in the same room. To make it more masculine I made the headboard as tall design with the arch molding that were hand cut using a router with a long board attached. This turned the router into sort of like a compass. The post was laminated pine make from 2×10’s. By ripping them down to 3” and gluing two together, this gave me a 3” x 3” post. The tops and bottoms of the post were finished out with off-the- shelf fence finials. Because the finials were made for fences they were very rough and not suitable for furniture work. To fix this, I chucked them up in the drill press, used the drill press as a lathe and polished them up with sand paper.
The dresser in the picture wasn’t part of the group. It was something that I built at the same time and happen to be close to the same color, so I used it in the picture.
