This is purpleheart and hard maple. I got this idea from the wood whisperer.

Do my eyes deceive me or is this a long grain variant?

I didn’t notice at first, but this does look a bit like long grain.

I just made one very similar myself – end grain though.

Looks nice!

It is long grain. I also made one, but end grained. The design is that of the woodwhisperers. Nice looking board and they work well.

Sorry, I was distracted earlier. This is a nice looking board, I like the looks of the long grain. I think it is the first I have seen made this way. I wanted to ask: Does it need any reinforcements to the endgrain joints? Does it have a finish on it yet?

Nice board….I like both long or side grain and end grain boards. Great job!
Purpleheart is very hard..I have used it a few times on cutting boards. When you cut it it makes saw powder, not dust!

I guess I’ll have to build one also. They look great.

all i have holding it together is glue. no biscuits or fasteners of any sort. i have had no trouble with it holding up so far. a year ago i finished it with mineral oil which gave it a really nice shine. but as you can see from this picture, it needs a new coat.

purpleheart was fun to work with. you know, something really different. it pretty good. for me, burn marks were a little more susceptible than other more common woods. and the sawdust is superfine like a powder.

Nice looking board. I think I also saw this on the wood whisperer. Wanted to try but don’t have the time. Yours came out great.
