My wife loves collecting Sea Glass and has been wanting me to do a project with it. My daughter loves butterflies so I had this idea.
I started with a 1’‘x12’‘x6’ board, cut it down to my desired dimensions with the intention of making a “box” to inlay the glass. I joined pieces of the board to form the front and back of the box, then routed the insides to form empty space to accommodate the natural glass shapes. I stained the front and back of the box prior to routing the butterfly outline, so as not to have stain seep into the shape of the butterfly. Next, hand-routed the butterfly, then drilled 3 sizes of holes to allow the glass to be seen. Lastly, I mounted the individual glass pieces, and affixed two sections of flexible LED strip lights around the inner edges of the box. I added some hangers and picture wire on the back so it can hang above her dresser.
Both the wife and daughter are all smiles, so I guess they like it.
