After playing with my Dad’s lathe for almost a year, I decided that I had to have one. It’s a cheap lathe from ebay but I have seen several people use them. Also I figured it would be a great starter lathe too. I have already gotten my moniies worth from my other cheap tools and I have no doubt that this tool wil pay off as well.
After it was ordered I began the stand for the lathe. I had a couple of 4×4 post that were given to me, I picked up a couple of 2×10’s and a couple of 2×4’s from HD. The legs are cut at 17 deg. and the cross braces are half lapped into it. A 4×4 brace runs between the cross braces with lag bolts. A 2×4 frame with a slab of 2×10 at each end and a few braces in the middle make the base of the top which I used to lag bolt to the top of the legs. The top, as well as the shelf is more 2×10. I also added a drawer for the turning tools. I threw some old golden pecan stain on it and poly for the top and shelf.
After assembling the lathe and installing it, it works great with no vibrations. The whole thing weighs a ton. After picking up some tools at Highland Wooworking and several logs from my Dad I finally turned my first little project yesterday. I made a little box with a lid. I am really looking forward to many great days of turning.

Very Cool and a good start. What does the box w/lid look like?

Nicely done Bill. It really helps when all your tools are in the same place and the stand weighs more than the lathe.
