The son of one of the guys I met on Woodnet has Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome.
A bunch of us are making finger tops for the kids to play with as their motor skills
are impaired and these are some of the things they can play with.
I’d never turned any before—I own a lathe but haven’t worked much with it yet.
This past Sunday, I made a few finger tops and one very small bowl—all firsts for me.
The great satisfaction is yet to come—seeing the pictures of those kids playing with
their new toys when the booty is distributed.
In one of the photos (picture two), two of the tops in the upper right are happily spinning.
The woods are cocobolo, ambrosia maple, hard maple, and sapelle.
