I’ve been wanting to make some building blocks for my kids, and this past weekend I got a few moments to make it happen. I ended up with 27, 3×1.5 inch, and 46, 1.5×1.5 inch blocks. They fit nicely in a plywood box made from birch plywood.
The blocks and box took the weekend to make, nad I made a write-up about the project on my website at www.bobek.net/joe/woodworking/blocks/ . But, to summarize the whole thing: Making blocks is really all about sanding blocks. I probably spent 30 minutes cutting the blocks up, and 4 hours sanding all the blocks smooth.
