My first bandsaw box – a Valentine gift for my wife.

Started the project thinking it would be done in time for the ‘day’ and, as with most projects, it took much, much longer than I expected.

Glued up four layers of rough cherry since I didn’t have a block large enough and did what I suppose is a fairly standard sequence of cuts for a Bs-box.

Carved the lid with a sanding disk in a hand-held drill/driver; made a couple of practice attempts on scrap and then had to go all-in on the lid piece. One slip the wrong way and creativity would have had to lend a hand with a different design.
I’m very happy with how the lid turned out; not so much with the box portion. But, after getting the finish on, I am generally satisfied with the results.

I will make the entry/re-entry cut in a different place next time I consider this project.

Snapped this one simply to document the craziness of stuff involved in making the box.

Yes, that is my “work bench”.
I’ll say it for you: “Goodness gravy!!”

Thanks for looking,
Delain

Very fluid, and I like the differing grain patterns between the two sides of the heart.
