I use rasps and files all the time. A friend gave me this scrap of Bocote so I made a handle for one of my New Old Stock Nicholson USA made file. I used a piece of copper pipe left over from a recent remodel in our home as the ferrule and finished it with a homemade oil and poly blend.

Nice! I love to turn tool handles. I’ve never used bocote for a tool handle, but I have some, so I’ll have to give it a turn. I also use copper couplers or caps for ferrules. Another nice ferrule material is a brass hex-sided compression nut. You can easily turn them smooth with HSS tools on the lathe, just like copper.
