Carved Bowls

Got another couple of bowls finished. The first one is popular, the second is oak. With the oak bowl I left a limb protruding on one side and made a thumb sized indentation for picking it up. I really like to let the piece of wood and the grain dictate the shapes of the bowls. So far no two have been any where near alike. Really wish I had more of the popular. Unfortunately, I burned most of it last Winter before I found out how much fun it was to make sawdust. Actually, it was looking at some of the grain in the popular that got me thinking it would be fun to try to make some bandsaw boxes and bowls…......I’m still trying. Sure appreciate all the ideas from all you lumberjocks.

Thanks, trifern. I went to your projects page and you have some awesome turnings. I have thought that someday I wold like to get a lathe. If my bowls and boxes ever get just half as good as your work, I would be a happy camper.

Like your bowls also, yeah Joes quite the wood turner, and he’s worked hard at it. You would do great with a lathe, your bowls show your artistic mind. Nice job.

I really like these, especially the first one. They are very sculptural and pleasing to look at. I am going to have to try this some time.
