I made this frame from a local tree that drops several limbs a year and (berries) and let dry.I used slip joints and pinned with massacar ebony with a letter “A” carved in each pin for my wifes first name.Finished with shellac and hand rubbed wax finish.Made for our anniversary. Thanks

I love red mulberry, it’s local in IL as well. Great tree, thanks for posting it!

Nice frame!!
Question, does the Mulberry wood change color over time and/or with exposure to the sun I’ve heard stories to that effect? If so what color should one hope or not hope to see. ;^)

sidestepmcgee,
Thanks for the update on the color. The reason I asked is I have several 3/4”x6”x6’ Mulberry boards that have been in my shop for a year and a half and I’ve seen no color change, I have fluorescent lighting but no windows.

UV exposure will change the color of mulberry quite a bit…heart wood that begins pale yellow will turn to a golden color, and gold or rose color will turn red or chocolate like sidestepmcgee said. There are UV blocking poly’s on the market which should do a good job of freezing it where you want it, however. I’ve got some which is almost like ash, but by controlling how much sun it sees, can control the color.

Great job on the frame I like the personalized touch of the Letter carved into the pin.
Cheers
