Project Information

Made this for my oldest daughter - a recipe box. Quarter-sawn white oak with walnut splines and walnut handle. The handle is split to hold a card. Finished in Minwax Honey stain. First time working with quarter-sawn oak. Really like how the grain turned out. Did the splines with a shop made jig.

David, I like this project. The wood looks great and the splines are neatly done. Quarter sawn White Oak is a beautiful and stable wood. Splitting the handle so you can set the cards in the top to read is a nice idea too. I usually make an angled bandsaw cut that doesn't reach all the way through the top. Looks like a thoughtful gift. Adding dimensions helps readers get and accurate idea about sizes. Keep boxing and keep posting.
