This was my first lathe project. The seat I cut out of a piece of firewood I picked up in my neighborhood. Not sure what kind of tree that was, but I saw it had those nice red streaks so I figured I’d make something out of a piece. The legs are from a cedar tree I cut down in my dad’s back yard.

As far as being a stool goes, this thing is terrible. It’s too tall, which I can fix, but it’s real top heavy and the legs don’t splay enough. The result is a stool that tips over every chance it gets. If you are standing next to this thing and fart it’s going to tip over. Which happens all the time. I guess that’s what happens when you eyeball the angles. I still sit on it though.

I’ll make another one eventually.

Jarmo, that is a beautiful piece of wood you saved from the fire for the seat! Does sitting on this stool help you improve your balance?! Even if it doesn’t ‘work’, you still got in some practice on the lathe and joinery. The next one will be better. Thanks for sharing.

Might be impractical, but it definitely looks nice!
