This is my 1st attempt to enter into the woodworking world. It is a small playtable (20”h x 24” w x 36” l) for my 1 yr old son. It’s still a little too tall for him, but I’m sure it won’t take long to grow into. The table is made of Home Depot 2×4’s and 1/2” MDF. The top has 2 coats of chaulkboard paint. The legs and rails have only one coat of poly. I actually edged the MDF top with base shoe so that it should hold up better with a toddler beating on it. All the edges and corners were eased to prevent injury.
I plan to make a couple smalls chairs to match in the near future. It is surprising how crooked 2×4’s actually are when you try to make nice clean joints. I’m really looking forward to a project with real hardwood!

Welcome to LumberJocks. A great project to start with, I am sure your son will get hours of playtime out of it.
