This was my first attempt at making a spoon last year. It’s made out of cherry. The basic shape was cut out with a jig saw. The handle was carved with a spokeshave, rasp and files, the bowl with a chisel and mallet. I used the drum sander pictured, as well as hand sanding up to 320 to finish it off. For the finish, I started with a heavy coat of coconut oil and then heated the spoon in the oven at 350 deg for 3-4 min. Letting it sit to cool causes all of the oil to be absorbed into the wood. I then coated the spoon with a mix of coconut oil and pure bees wax as a top coat. It was a fun process! I have since made a bunch more that I will post later.

Very nice. I’ve never thought of using coconut oil.
