Pipe Smoker Carving

I carved this pipe smoker in a Pine knot. He is 15” tall, 8 1/2” wide and 4” thick. I carve using rotary hand tools (similar to dentist tools.) I mainly use burs in my Foredom for all of my wood spirits. I love watching each character emerge as I’m working my way through a knot- my favorite type of carving :)

Great carving, Josh. I’d love to sit and watch your process for making a carving like this with a face in it! I’m getting interested in learning that part of wood working, too…..............Jim

Wonderful facial expression Josh, he has that look of a learned old mentor to his younger kin :)

Lumberjocks finally approved my very first carving entry from a long while ago…it wasn’t my favorite carving, so I edited the listing and added a new carving. I like this one :)

Your worst is 100 times my best. Maybe someone thought it wasn’t a carving?

Love the experssion details, his Consternation appears to be very intense and a bit inquisitive.

Great piece Josh.

Bob.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.
