My kids like their bedroom doors with some type of identifying sign. They’ve outgrown the previous ones apparently. My 9 year old daughter discovered Harry Potter a year ago and has become a bit obsessive with all things Potter-ish. She likes Ravenclaw (Anyone understand why Ravenclaw House has an Eagle for their emblems? Makes no sense for the “smart” house). The lettering are her initials in an attempt at a Potter Font I found via Google. Nothing to it. I found the template for an eagle via Google and printed it on card stock. I used that to transfer it to wood to begin shaping.
My 8 year old son is just as obsessed with Minecraft. I secretly like both. His was a little more original as it was kind of planned as I went. I found the basic Minecraft font and worked from that. I routed the borders with a trim router with straight edges. The creeper face was free hand and cleaned up a bit with hand tools and sandpaper. The background was from dirt block images found on the net. It’s card stock fastened by spray adhesive and coated with Mod Podge. The paper edges frayed and tore when I was cleaning it up. I had to create the border strips to cover the mistake which in the end I think work better than without.
