This Pen and Pencil set is made from 100+ year old camphor wood, remnants of a one time camphor wood chest that has long since been reduced to a collection of broken boards. Made this for my sister who is an author. She wants to write a novel about the origins of the chest, or more specifically the owners (my wife’s great grandparents) who were missionaries in Korea and China around 1900. She thought it would bring inspiration to write with the actual wood that inspired her to write the story. She does most of initial writing with pen & paper before composing on a computer.

Great way to re-use an an old historic item.

I stayed at a bed and breakfast (Farm Stay) on New Zealand’s South Island three years ago. The owner who was in his late 60s and was tearing down his parents homestead house that was over 100 years old and he wanted to make something small as a keepsake piece for each of his siblings and their children from some of the wood.
I had given him one of my lathe turned wine stoppers and told him how they were made. He thought that was a great idea for the keepsaje pieces and he just so happened to be taking a class on wood turning. He reported everyone was quite happy with the outcome and the keepsakes.

very nice! I like making pens. gives me something to do in between projects. I would like to work my way into segmented pens but I am unsure how to master that. Any advice?
