Orphanage Bed/Desk drawing

Project by ManOWood posted 292 days ago 997 views 1 time favorited 7 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This is just a quick drawing but This is the design I was talking about. The desks swing up from the side. You can split the top as show to give back support. The back side has 2 additional drawers for storage which can also be sat on like stools if they are empty.

I love it Man, it’s a great concept. Let us know if you build it, even a prototype. I’d really like to see it.

brilliant concept! I would add a storage under the desk as well, although it swings (maybe divided into small compartments to reduce the mess) as there is no storage space accessible when you sit.

A great design. It shows some possibility for their use.

Cool concept but the problems I see are safety and cost, how would children get out of this in the desk configuration in case of fire are other emergency in a hurry with out getting hurt. And she stated that materials are limited in the areas these are needed as wel as the craftsmen building them.

Great design tho I like it.

Great Design, this would be incredibly functional. Regarding shacks post, I wonder if you could replace both legs to the desk with a one piece square tube steel leg. (As you look at your picture, remove the leg to the left entirely, and replace the leg to the right.) The tube steel would have to run under most the length of the desk top, then down to the bed carcass like you have the right leg doing now. That would allow them to slide out at the end of the bed. That would also allow for accessible storage under the desk, too. Tube steel would be stiff enough to support the weight of the desk with just one leg, though not as affordable as wooded legs.

Put it in wood.
