My neighbor is a taxidermist and needed two bases for a couple of Russian bears that he was doing for a customer. This is how one of them turned out. The other was a standing bear and the oak base was much smaller. The customer wanted this bear to be taller for his guests to have a good view of the bear. It was constructed with 2×4s in the center of the base for a strong structure and each corner has biscuit joints with additional wood strips glued and screwed for strength. There are also casters on the bottom.

Is the young man the one who bagged this bear? Nice looking base.

Very nice looking base. I would guess that anyone with enough money to pay the taxidermist, and you, is going to have a large enough home to display this prize.

How much did he charge to stuff the kid? Looks lifelike.

Nice stand, personally I would prefer the hunter was mounted. But excellent work.
