This is the bowl I mentioned having a very complicated bottom. It has 16 segments in the bottom, 12 triangles in the center and 4 half-moon forming a preimeter around the triangles. There are two sizes of triangles, and two species, Cherry and Walnut. Very tedious to keep it all lined up (need about six hands for line-up and clamping. I was lucky and got the windmill near dead center for a change. The next layer up from the bottom is wormy Chestnut, then Walnut, then Cherry topped of with a Mahogany-Cherry-Mahogany laminated rim. It is 11” OD at the rim with a total of 88 pieces glued together. This is just one I made for the enjoyment of it, not promised to anyone for a change. I already had this one and one more glued up, but I promise pics on the next one I start from scratch, maybe this weekend or so. My grandson (7 Y.O.) thinks “this is a good one” he told me this evening!! He may be just a little prejudiced ;-)

Nice bowl. I have my first segmented bowl in it’s final stages of glue-up right now. I hope to post it in a few days. I like your work.

Segmented turnings really appeal to me. That looks pretty cool!

Thanks for the encouragement there spidy. Had to gutter my front porch a couple of weekends ago and then had to rush to finish a second floor on my garage and get it under roof before some heavy storms hit over this way. Got it dried-in in just the nick of time, bad storms several days after driving the last screw in my new metal roof. Will finish up some work on it this weekend. Got a 4H camp next weekend. Will get another bowl in teh works shortly I hope.

Thanks Mike. I’ve been soooo busy this summer I’ve had little time to bowl or flute. Just after finishing my garage, the wife’s sister’s husband died and we had to do a lot of traveling with that. Hope I can get back in the shop more soon. I did rough out 4 flute blanks last weekend. Try the segmented, they sell great and are so beautiful when made with lots of contrasting pieces.
