Project Information

Just finished this little bedside table. Made from yellow birch. I turned the pull on my pole lathe out of a scrap of oak. Tapered legs.
My drawer-making is definitely progressing, this one fits better than any I've made this far. Simple things, like making sure that the sides of the drawers are arranged so that you can plane the drawer sides from the front with no tear-out, make a big difference.

Thanks for the compliments. The finish is amber shellac and wax, the board I used for the top and legs was much darker than usual for yellow birch, all heartwood, maybe. The color of the drawer is more normal color for birch.

It's vaguely based on an article in Fine Woodworking by Christian Becksworth, where he shows two ways to do the legs (tapered or turned), but I didn't necessarily follow his dimensions exactly.
