Finished this a couple days before my son’s birthday and just haven’t been home to post it yet. He asked over Christmas if I could make him a chess board and set. I figured I might have it done by his birthday and came in just under the wire.

Not much I can say that I didn’t put into the blog. Case is walnut, drawers are cherry, snap in and are held with magnets. The pieces are maple and walnut, designed one morning in powerpoint.

This was a fun project, and I am pretty thrilled with how it turned out. I put it on my desk at work to show a fellow woodworker, and it ended up being a bit of good fortune I wasn’t in my office much that day as it brougt a steady stream of visitors through to look it over and take pictures.

I haven’t been home enough to play even one game yet, but am hoping to remedy that situation this weekend.

Horses look great. Very nice chess set! I like those hollow forms.

I can’t imagine how you made all those intricate cuts!! Amazing!
And what is the chessboard material?
This is truly craftsmanship on display!

Thank you very much.

The board material is 2” mosaic stone tiles.

Have your say...
