Rustic Picture Frames made from Cypress Barn Board

Awhile back, I came across a bunch of Cypress barn board.

I’ve used it for a variety of projects, including these picture frames.

The first picture is one that my Father painted in 1955.

I finally made a decent frame for it.

I bought him this paint by number kit, which were very popular at the time.

He was recovering from a two week stay at the hospital.

He was very artistic, & I thought this would keep him occupied for awhile.

He passed away two weeks after completing this, so I treasure this painting.

The outside dimensions of this picture frame is 19” X 23”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The second, & third pictures are some prints that I purchased for only 50 cents each.
The frames both measure, 21” X 22.”
The Boat picture is from a calendar, & the frame measures 13” X 16.”
Good story. I wasn’t around in 55, but I do remember trying to do the paint by number thing. Never did very good at it. Nice frames.
Great story, nice frames. Built a few barn board frames myself over the early years. They have their place. I was 6, in 55. We once owned a 55 Ford sedan.
Dick -
Thank you for sharing such a touching story. Your Dad had talent! Nice job on the cypress frames.
Who painted the other images? They are all very nice.
Thank you Jack, Charlie, & David,
The only painting that’s signed is the ducks, by, Sweney.
I looked him up, & he used to be an illustrator for Brown, & Bigelow.
Very touching story Dick, I was 5 in 55. My aunt died on my birthday so I do remember it. My dad also was a guy who liked to paint the paint by number paintings. We had a big one of the last supper he painted back in the 50s. I like your painting better. Its beautiful. Love ya both.
Thank you Mike , & Grumpy,
It’s a kind of coincidence, but I just happened to remember that it was my Dad’s
birthday yesterday. I wasn’t even thinking about it when I posted his painting.
He was born 02/04/1894, that was 115 years ago.
