A Picture Frame For My Wife

This was a Christmas gift for my wife last year, though I’m still yet to hang it up…maybe I’ll hang it for her birthday in June…

I don’t know what sort of wood it is, I’m guessing red gum? It was extremely hard and dense, easily the heaviest length of wood I’ve ever held. Can anyone tell from the end grain photo what it is?

I’m extremely happy with how it turned out, it really looks great in person. The joints are tight and the colour is amazing in the light.

Especially happy since this is also my first ever picture frame; I’ve meant to make one for the longest time but have never gotten around to it. I still haven’t made a cutting board too! What sort of woodworker am I??

I have more about it on my website here too.

Thanks for looking!

I have no idea what the kind of wood is. I do pretty well at identifying redwood, pine, and oak though :P But my anniversary is coming up and my wife has one less letter :) I also happen to have some figured redwood burl that would probably be enough for something like this. You’re the man, dude! Or I guess you can be the dude, man!
