This is a sassafrass live-edge bench. It is 4 ft long and the picture is done freehand with the router then painted with acrylic paint.

Very Nice project. The pic is also very beautiful and soothing….very cool.
You carved the pic with router, is it Trimmer Router?

Nice Bench! I like Sassifras, the smell is wild! Will the bark stay? forever? I have a customer that wants a piece with the bark on. I usually dont leave it because bugs live under & in the bark of most trees. But I do have some sassifras logs that would work.

That’s a great bench, looks like it took some heavy lifting for those slabs!

Okay, hubby told me thsi is not sassafrass but soft maple. Oh well, we did one in sassafrass that looked just about like this. To answer a few questions, The picture was done with a Craftsman 1 1/2 horse router. I have done this particular design about 20-30 times on various signs, stumps and benches. It remains our no.1 requested design. Hubby said that it depends on when the tree was cut whether the bark will stick tight or fall off. If it was cut when the sap is down the bark will remain, if the tree was cut when the sap is up the bark will slip. We had this bench for quite a few months before it sold and the bark stayed tight.
