When someone asks me to build something for them, I do everything I can to avoid any misunderstandings. It is so important for everyone to be on the same page. It’s so easy for people to be talking the same talk and yet have different visions of what’s expected in their minds.
If I can deliver to the customer what the customer or their decorator wanted when they first came in, then it’s a win win for everyone involved. Sketches are the form of communication I find the most reliable. Nobody will then start a conversation with “But I thought…” when you make delivery.
So was the case here when I was asked to build a replacement for an existing fireplace mantle. The customer was very pleased and this led to the construction of built it bookcase in the same room (after we make them a sketch).
This was built of solid oak over oak veneered plywood.

Fine piece of workmanship ….being able to sketch what another person is seeing in their mind is a true form of art in itself !
