My wife asked for a coat rack/shelf near the entry way from out garage and this is what I came up with. This is my first pallet wood project and the wood was literally from a pallet I found next to a dumpster near my house. The hooks were given to me by my mother in law. Thanks for looking and please provide good/bad/ugly feedback. I love to learn as I go …

Very nice shelf, how did you hang it? French cleat or picture hanger?

-- There is an easy way and a hard way and I always seem choose the hard way. Figure it's the best way to learn.

Thanks! I didn’t use a french cleat or a picture hanger actually. Basically I just took 2 pieces of pallet wood and screwed pieces of pine 3/4 inch thick to the back where studs would be in the wall. This gave me a nice 1.5 inch think piece and I just attached the hole thing to studs through the front. The top 2 screws are exposed above the hangers, and I hid the 2 other screws behind the hooks. Its really on there and pretty sturdy. I used the Kreg jig to connect the 2 side pieces so the side of the shelf with the pine in the back wasn’t exposed.

Have your say...
