This is my latest project for my new shop. It was made of left over wood from a woodmill. (scraps!) There’s pine, oak, cherry, ash, poplar, fir in the mix. I’m hoping this won’t cause me problems down the road! Anyway, I laminated 2- 12 inch section so that I could run it through my planner. Laminated both section together and planned/sanded the finished product. The table top is 6 ft by 2 ft and almost a full 2” thick. I added one coat of urathane, sanded and you can see the finished product. Cost of materials…...$15 (Cdn).....labour cost….priceless!!

George, you have a really nice bench top. I have come to appreciate seeing shop furniture that looks, well like, ....furniture. It is easy to focus solely on function and forget about form when it comes to shop furniture. But I really like to see both in projects for the shop.
This is a nice post and great use of “scrap” wood.

Nice Bench Top. A very good use of ‘wood scraps’. I am sure all of us wish we lived close to a woodmill.

Thats the problem with LJ . . . you spend more time here than in the shop.

Sweet. I’ve got some chunks of bowling alley I plan to use on my future benches. I’m certain it won’t be less time consuming than having just constructed from scratch. Thanks for the post.
