My future Daughter in law recently graduated with her masters degree from the U of Indiana. We gave her a gift of money but also a gift certificate from my workshop; “Old Hickory Woodworking” for anything she wanted! After a couple 3 months, she came to us and asked for a jewelry chest. So I looked and searched and goggled and thought and finally came with my version of a “Beautiful Jewelry Chest” It is made from Oak plywood and QSWO. The drawers are all made using dovetail joints. The dividers are half lap joints made from 1/4” oak. It is finished with a red mahogany finish and 3 coats of clear shellac. My wife helped me with the felt on the bottoms of the drawers as well as the doors that will carry the necklaces. I used a piece of blue foam board, cut 3/16” slices in for the top drawer ring holder. It was a fun project. She does not know it yet but when she comes to see it in a couple weeks, my son is going to have a “special box” already in the chest. When she opens it up, he is going to “pop the question” It will be real exciting for all of us! I hope this project will inspire you. Thanks for looking!!
